Please help, how do I remove 1990? 35 hp evinrude lower unit.

Mod# e35rlcnd, SN# e0090082 I have taken the 4 bolts and single upper nut off and unit drops down about an inch, I don't know where to disconnect the shift rod? I see no side plate to gain access to a coupler the only manual I have go's up to 1989 and shows a side plate where you undo a top nut. this motor does not have this plate on the side. ANY help from the experts is most appreciated! thanks. up front

e35rlcnd is a 1982 motor.

I'll try to find this tomorrow and see if I get it apart, this all started because it feels like something is binding when I try to put it in gear, when I try to put it in gear its like there is spring tension stopping it from gong in gear.

when (if) I get it apart I'll post what I find.

got it apart the shift rod at the lower unit is froze, took out the drain screws and rusty water about 1/2 cup drained out, no oil just brown water.. this is one of 3 clunkers I was given, swapped lower unit, cleaned carb, plugs, replaced fuel/vac lines its now for sale in my front yard with 7 others.
