i have been waiting so long to go on my boat, i have 2 1999 90 hp fichts. i had the computers program updated by dfi in alabama, since then i had an engine blow from a computer malfunction. today i have a new power head & new computer. i wanted to timing calibrate both motors. i have ficht version 1.42b software running in dos prompt startup mode with win 98. the program reads my motors fine, but when i go to timing calibration, the program will not save any changes i make, i make them in 1,2 & 3 dagree incraments and it still doesnt work. actually when i go into the timing section of the program, all the sudden my motor starts running really rough until i exit that section. then it acts as if my motors go back to a default timing? my new power head on the stbd motor runs at 6 dagrees btdc and my older port motor runs at 23 dagrees btdc. the computer doesnt even save my changes when i exit the program. i know this because when i exit the timing section the motors run back to normal and when i go back into the program the ecu tdc is way off what i tried to put in???????????? this is really frustraiting. I have talked to like 6 people about this, and then i brought it to an outboard shop and ended up blowing my motor, i dont want to do it again, please help i beg anyone please, thank you for reading my troubles,

chris sommer
www.chrissommer.com

When you enter the verify timing diagnostic section you want to verify the computer with the timing you see with your timing light. You are actually are freezing the timing so you can check it with your light. After you check it with the light, you then can change it if you must, but no more than three degrees at a time. Sometimes you have to do it more than once to get the proper timing.

On your computer screen you should see:
"The ECU/EMM timing is ? degrees B/ATDC"
"Use a timing light to read actual engine timing"

"Enter actual timing: TDC". Make sure you specify "A" for after or "B" for before top dead center.

Press "enter" to verify timing
Press "esc" to cancel

I use the DOS system and never had a problem setting the timing. Do you have the instructions that came with your software?
