I Got my lower unit rebuilt then put it back together yanked her and had it run in a drum for a while. Then decided to kill it then try to restart and snap the pull cord went in half. So I looked at it closley and there is some plastic pin or something under the starter that fits up in there and keeps pressure on the spring. after I tinkered with it I notice that it will not retract so I then took the starter off and noticed the pin that connects from a bolt to the hold pin at the botton of the starter and after I messed with that a bit it started retracting again. My big problem is every time I put the starter back on the motor it stops retracting but I can get it to work while off the motor! can someone please help.

It's binding on something. Were there spacers not replaced during reinstallation, or legs bent?

I got the starter taken apart today and there is one end of the spring bowed out. And its rubbing the inner tube which is preventing it from retracting. So now I need to0 repair the spring or find a suitable replacement. Oh yeah pn# for the spring is 901970
