Please help! What is this bolt?!?!?! 1969 45 hp chrysler

what is this bolt by the yellow arrow on my 1969 45 hp chrysler outboard model 4545???? i heard its bad if u remove it after i removed it. i didnt shift gears or anythin while it was out and i only had i out for about 2 seconds cuz i mistaked this for the gear oil fill hole but i didnt put anythin in it cuz i found the actual gear oil hole. but please respond to let me know what this is cuz other ppl have told me not to remove it but no one has said what to do if u have removed it or if i need to b worried!screw.jpg

That screw is the pivot screw for the shift yoke. If you remove it and try to put the engine in gear, The shift mechanism will become misplaced and the engine will no longer shift, even if you replace it. If the engine no longer shifts into and out of gear, then you must disassemble the lower unit to replace the parts in their correct position .

If you removed it and replaced it without trying to shift the engine, there is a good possibility that nothing happened. If the engine still shifts forward, neutral, and reverse, no harm--no foul. Just don't remove that screw again

thank u so much. as of now it doesnt shift into gears but i believe that is cuz i dont have the shift rod put together correctlly cuz i need to take the lower unit of again

The only way to fix this is you will have to disassemble the lower unit and re align the shift pivot screw. This will require a service manual and a lower unit seal kit.
