Hello,

I have a 2004 VIP Baysteatlh with a 90 Merc. I've had the boat for approx. 2yrs. As of recent I noticed after I go fishing and look at the deck of the boat the next day or so, there are orange type stains on the deck. The stains are not on the hull just the deck. This never used to occur. At first I thought it was from catching fish (i wish =), but it seems to occur anytime I take the boat out. If I use rust aid, the stains will be removed. However, if I take the boat out the next day I'll notice the stains the following day. I can't figure out why it is occuring? I don't understand why these stains reappear even if I take the boat out and I do not get it dirty? I don't know how it could be rust on a boat deck, there is no metal or anywhere to "rust" What are these stains and how do I keep them away?

Thanks,
Chris

That's a stumper. Try this just for grins. Pick up a spray bottle of Clorox Clean Up. Do the usual spray thing and just let it sit for an hour or so.
You just might have a mold problem that the Rust Aid is just masking. If the deck has any porosity there's a good chance your solution might be there.
In any case a five year old boat really shouldn't have those problems.
Just a shot in the dark.
