Yep, that's a starter all right. I have seen this before as well.

She was turning over rather slow like Gator mentioned in his post.....

Although the noise is not intermittent....happens every time.

Re: Please help with noise...video included

I figured it out. I pulled the starter, which looked fine. Flywheel looked fine. Reached in and grabbed it, and it wiggles around, making the same knocking noise you hear in the video. I'm guessing the flywheel bolts loosened up. Hopefully I can just tighten them up and use some loctitie.

Now, Whats the easiest way to get at the flywheel? Can I unbolt the bellhousing and slide it forward a few inches? Guess I'd have to use a hoist to lift it up and push it forward? I have easier access to a wrecker at work to do the job. Or do I have to pull the motor?

You need to remove the engine from the boat for that. The flywheel bolts also hold the coupler on, and are inside the engine bell housing.

First thing to do is remove the drive. That's about a 10 minute job. Then disconnect the fuel line, battery cables, throttle and shift cables and the instrument harness plug. Next remove the rear mounting bolts and then the front mounting bolts. The front mount can be done one of two ways. Either remove the large nut form the mount or pull the lag bolts out of the stringer/mounting.

Hi everybody, I'm getting a similar noise like the original poster of the thread. This is the noise coming from my engine and with the outdrive off, video enclosed below. Does anyone know what the fix for this was? Please help...
