Ok im sure this has been gone over a time or two but I have been looking for months now and even with going in depth on forums everywhere I found I still have not came to the answer for my problems. anyways I have a 1989 arriva with a force 120. ok time for the bad.. the outboard had no markings as far as year or id plate. what I do know is that the electronics have all been replaced with a setup from a 1991 force 120. now the real issue at hand is top end boggs at half throttle. all I get is a deep throaty sound and nothing more. things I have went over include the following compression is sitting at 98 to 95 on all 4 stator ohms check out to be good it has aftermarket cdi stator part 174-8778k1 along with a new rectifier from cd1 part 194-5279. I don't have the adapter for the dva test. carbs have been gone threw a 3 times as well as new plugs.timing is spot on. two weeks ago I had it out on the lake and it was running with no top end power what so ever after about an hour of messing with it on the water the rpms dropped to zero and the boat took off like a rocket wide open up on plane and ran great. it would idle take throttle and jump right up to speed like it should. now we went to the dock let it sit for an hour when we returned it was back to the old ways tach working and way underpowered. I thought it was rectifier so I canged it and nothing infact therpm gauge doesn't work at all now. please help me guys my family is wanting to go play on the water and the kids are driving us nuts. thanks

The deep throaty sounds?? that sounds like the fuel's been shut down, or too much fuel.
Check the burn on all the plugs.
If #3 down is cleaner than the others it's possible the diaphragm is bad?
Or there is a bad connection and it's sucking air somewhere?
The choke/primer which do you have? the primer can be feeding too much fuel? Pinch off the line to the carb after it starts.

Check for water in the fuel.

Unhook the tach completely.

Test the over heat alarm.

Compression should be 145-150#
Yours all being about 95# shows the gauge is faulty or they all are low?
The good thing is all are about the same.

the gauge was a borrowed one from a friend. plug 1-3 where slightly black number 4 was not burnt at all so I started to check wiring I found that number 4 wire was burnt off at the coil side of it so I fixed that still running the same but now plug 4 is burning. still the same issue with top end power. I did notice that the battery gauge doesn't show it charging nor does the tach work now. is it possible the newer stator is going bad? it was on the boat when I bought it.

the guy I bought the boat from had done the stator new reeds and plugs. he stated that he would run it rich with oil mixture. I looked into all 4 spark plug holes and 1-3 pistons have some carbon on them but number 4 is in great clean shape. I assume that the 4th plug wire had been bad for some time to have a clean piston top. I have checked the fuel lines looked at the fuel pump and also tested the fuel flow while running squeezing bulb causes the engine to flood to the point it about dies so I believe that side of things are ok.

If you can squeeze the ball and make the engine die???
The ball should pump up and get firm and then do nothing else.
If it kills the motor then I'd guess the diaphragm is faulty.
A clean plug can be from too much fuel too.

Primer bulb should get hard and have no effect on the motor if the float valves in the carbs are working properly.

it pumps up tight and holds pressure I did notice that one of the needles in the bottom carb had a impression pf the seat on the rubber tip as if it was stored with fuel in the bowl for a long time. I will order rebuild kits for both the carbs and get back to you guys when they come in.

Father time is not a rubber compound’s friend
