I have been searching for hours unsuccessfully.

I'm convinced the transoms plywood must be removed from the inside like bend the angles holding it in then yank out the bottom dianglley I don't see a way to pull it straight up.

Look for both Steve's (there are 2) and 1973Chieftains builds they are all in here, and IIRC all welded transoms that required cutting and rework to get the transom out. They posted pix of their work.

Also, please refrain from posting into inactive topics. Both those Chieftain topics you posted to havent been active in over 5yrs. You are not likely to get any replies or pix from them.

After 90days w no new posts by the original poster (OP) treat the topics like library books: for research only and not to be written in.

Thanks

How about showing what you have? The Chieftain transom covers evolved over the years and we have no idea what you are dealing with.

my transom looks exactly like post #2 green boat.

I removed the mercruisers helmit, lift hooks, blower motors, fuel lines basicalley everything attached to transonsome.

the transom is in very good condition I think I'll slap a sheet of Arauco plywood on and call it a day.

On my 25' Chief I took an angle grinder and cut a 2" strip of aluminum off right above the transom, after removing the rub rail. I put a couple eye bolts into the wood, and between a chain hoist and a couple pry bars it came out in a few minutes. I'm not sure I have a pic anymore, but it is in my rebuild. You would have to search for it, for some reason it's no longer in the rebuild sticky

Sorry for the prolonged hiatus gentlemen! First child, moving, and now a second child pretty much took up all my summer last year.

And Brain, I thought most of mine looked very solid too until it came out... and broke in half! If it has any soft areas at all, I'd highly recommend replacing it. Wasn't overly difficult after I cut the aluminum

Welcome back 73!. I found about where you started the transom talk and demo. It begins here at post 102.

Brain I have found that sometimes if my computer cache or the browsing data has not been cleared it will block some pictures from being displayed. If you haven't cleared them in a while you might want to try it.

The people here are volunteering to help, but at times you make it sound like it is their responsibility to help.

Posting pictures of your project helps, because your hull might be different from others. Maybe a PO did work on it so it is different.

iboats is a living library with lots of great information. Searching is often easier using Google and not iboats search option.

There is also lots of other info on the WWW at your fingertips.

The most common response to a build that has an issue is safety. If people see an build that has issues they will suggest methods to do it with proven materials and processes that will ensure safety.

You are building a boat that will go 30 miles offshore as I recall. If it were me I would want it as safe and strong as possible.
