I've got an I/O in NC that is stored in a drystack building that is locked today. Temp is supposed to hit 29 for a couple of hours tonight and I haven't winterized because I'm not ready to end boating season. Should I be concerned about any damage with the low temp for just this one night?

how long it takes to freeze, i don't know. but if it were my rig. yes, i'd be concerned and want the water out of it. how yer gonna accomplish getting to it when it's behind a locked gate, i don't know..

Just because it's 29 outside doesn't mean that it's going to be 29 inside the building. Is there heat in the building? Even if it was only 10 degrees warmer, that would make a difference.

What are your options? If it's locked and you can't get in and all you can do is worry, then worry. If you can get in, get in and winterize.

You may not have been ready but Mother Nature doesn't care. You should have been watching the weather and taken appropriate precautions.

I suspect that if your storage building is metal then you will only have a few hours before the building cools down to the ambient temperature, then it becomes a freezer.

Better try to contact the operators and get them to open up.

You have no problem. 29 is NOT low enough for the water to freeze solid inside of a closed building and risk damage in this case. It would take several days at 29 for it to be a concern.

29 may not even be cold enough to feeze the water inside the manifolds anyhow esp. if its only a couple hours....

It would have to be 29 for a while to do any damage even if it began to freeze it has to freeze solid before it will crack anything.

Thanks for all of the replys. I ended up getting in there and drained the water just in case. Didn't want to fully winterize since I plan to keep using the boat until at least mid December. We've still got plenty of 70 degree days left here in the Carolinas. Thanks again!
