i have a 1984 bayliner w/ a 125a penta outdrive.. last year had no problems with it. it sat all winter in the water and i just bay tested it for the first time today. it runs fine, goes in to gear fine. when i went to accelerate the prop stopped spinning an the moter was winding out. i guess it dis-engages...why.......

Is the hub on the prop spun allowing it to slip?<br />To check put drive in gear and try to turn prop against the gear if the prop shaft stays put and the prop turns then it is spun.<br /><br />If the prop shaft turns both ways when in gear then you have some other problem(not fully in gear or worn parts etc.)

ps..it wouldnt be a tranny problem or something serious could it... what your saying is worn parts on the hub?

The metal part and the center part are separated, you can't tell just by looking at it. Try what he said.J.

Try the prop first before you start sweating. Go to a marina and ask if you can barrow a used prop or put a deposit on one for an hour and find out. It is most likely the rubber hub on the prop is bad. They are designed to fail like that to protect the internal parts of your outdrive.
