plug gaps

I have a little Suzuki DF 9.9 4 stroke outboard.
The motor runs well provided plug gaps are almost half the usual gap. (The plugs are the correct NGK DCPR6E)
The correct setting of 0.8 gives almost impossible starting where as .50 gives good starting and running. Why is this and should I worry. Is it something to do with the magento? What can I check out?

Re: plug gaps

Not familiar with the engine but maybe you need a new distributer? Could be corroded and not sending enough voltage.
