I have a 98 Johnson 150 ficht, 670 hours and all going well, all maintenance done by myself. I am starting to think about the 700 hour service which will time nicely for a few winter evenings later this year. I am unable to find a maintenance life for plug leads, doesn't seem to rate a mention in the service manual. I have owned the boat since 430 hours and have not replaced the leads and cannot find any of the previous owner's paperwork which says it was done at all.
If it ain't broke don't fix it I guess!
cheers

Re: Plug lead life?

Embarrassed to say, but I have some motors with over 50 year old plug wires on them...
If yours are bothering you and you can get new ones, go ahead and replace them and put the old ones in a plastic bag for spares.
Piece of mind does mean something on a boat....

Yep, like txwhaler, I have some around 50 years old too, but I usually change them out when I replace the coils. There have been a few times that I'm trimmed them back a little bit on each end and put them back in service.
