What's the best method for sealing my drain hole.?
I made a new one in the center as the old one was an inch or two too high, on starbord side, and too much water always remained.
Regular epoxy sealer stuffed in, or should I use a Piece of Dowell? It is a fairly large hole, more than 1" I plan on sanding the transom and repainting anyway... New Hole will have plastic insert. The old hole had aluminum sleeve. Knocked it out, sanded with Dremel and ready to seal. CPES will go in first, but should I send Dowel in, or just cram it full of epoxy sealer?
Thanks
Fiberglass 16ft Chrysler 1966 !

Re: Plug my hole

Coat the hole and dowel with 3M 5200, make sure the dowel fits tight and that should do it. Make sure you seal both "Ends" of the dowel when you are done with it.

Re: Plug my hole

Had a /67 Charger 183. Dowel's the way to go but I coated both the hole and the dowel with fiberglass resin and rammed it in. covered the ends with glass, sanded and repainted. Used this method on the engine mounting holes as well. Never saw them/never leaked. I would sugest you use a brass insert glued with resin rather than the plastic. More strength and less posibility of a defomation leak. Good Luck. Larry

i like the dowel method. may want to go with marine-tex on the outside and 3m 5200 on the inside. can sand and finish the marine-tex. good luck-

i agree with hooligan, might as well skip the plastic under waterline fitting and go with some good ole metal.
