Plugs for 1990 70hp Evinrude

I have a fishing buddy on Lake Texoma. I told him I'd bring him a new set of plugs. He called me today and indicated the current plugs are QL77JC4. Can anyone suggest a good plug (NGK?) and the proper gap?<br /><br />Thanks to All!!<br /><br />Mark

No.....if it uses the QL77JC4, then that's what to use. Set them at .030. John/Rudes really don't like any other plug but Champion.<br /><br />EDIT: That is the factory recommended plug....

NAPA carries them.

Does NGK make plugs to fit outboards??<br /><br />the (NGK BR#EYA's are the best plugs ive ever ran(snowmobile,dirtbikes,quads), the spark somehow adjusts to temp, (or something) results in a 75% less fouling(in most cases)..<br /><br />not saying i have fouling problems on my boat. but NGK does make a good plug...

Yes they do team....but John/Rudes are/were built around Champion plugs. Gap setting and plug numbers changed but Champs are still the plug to use in OMC engines.

Champion QL77JC4 - I've got 'em before at AutoZone and O'Rielly - but any given store might not have 'em in stock at any given time - helps if you mention it's a marine plug.

The plug you want PierBridge, is Champion RJ8C or J8C gapped at .030.....
