This will likely be among the dumbest questions posted- however, I'm at my wits end, searching for any reason why my outboard is running like crap.

The fuel seperator has four ports, 2 on each side.
Each pair of ports has an arrow going in, and an arrow pointed out.

When I install the filter, do I run the fuel "IN" to the arrow pointed towards the middle, and the "OuT" the one across from it with the arrow pointed outward?

<-------------####################
####################
####################<------------

or like

###############----------------->
###############
###############<-----------------

I just need to verify this, so that I don't lose sleep worrying about pumping dirty water into my engine.

Assuming the arrows must be followed (IN and OUT), do you connect the hose across from each other, or both on the same side?

it doesn't matter.. Just have the hose flow going in, at an arrow pointing in, and have the hose flow out, at an arrow pointing out..

Skinsk is correct it does'nt matter. They give you multiple "ins" & "outs" due to different mounting positions you might encounter. Just make sure your line from the fuel tank goes to an "in" opening & your line to the motor is coming from an "out" opening.
