Johnson 25R75 25hp 1975 Model...<br /><br />i have a manaul and it talks about points and breaker points...please explain as i am not a mechanic and dont quite uderstand them....know what they do but not sure how they work..<br /><br />how do i check, set, gap, and repair/replace them...<br /><br /> :confused: :eek: :eek: <br /><br />all your help will grealy be appreciated..<br /><br />p.s. i have messed with points and b&s motors but that was only using emory cloth to get rust off...

Poolshark<br />Points and condensers are used to trigger coil to make enough voltage to fire Spark Plugs at the correct time. You have one set for each plug. If you have good spark on both plugs no need to change them. The procedure is in your manual if you want to do anyway.<br />You have to pull the flywheel, will normaly need a puller. After get flywheel off can see points and condensers. Note how wire are connected or take a picture then unbolt points and condenser and change out. Set gap to .020 for each set on the highest point of the points cam. If new points comes with greese put it on wiper and make sure wiper hits cam. Align the flywheel on the keyway and put it back on.<br />Again If you have never done it and have good spark now I would leave them alone.
