Do they make a electronic conversion from points for a 1987 50hp force ? Or a place to get points and not have it cost 70$. I would rather the conversion like they do with the old cars

Re: points question

Are points in motors as late as 87? My 1970 35 hp Chrysler has points that I replaced in 1985 and I doubt I paid over 10.00 for the set from a well known Marina vs Napa. There is info on here related to conversions that I thought I was interested in (since I was doing conversions on lawn mowers in the late 70s. after seeing how reliable my points were I dropped the idea of converting. IMO points will not fail instantly but electronics will. Dead In The Water! Electronisc has advantages as with the mowers, crankcase blow-by due to wear had no affect (oil c/n foul the electronics).

Re: points question

Thats a great question... I know I used to put Pertronix units on old Internationals and Jeeps. I bet one could adapt these to work. Google Pertronix, and check out their site.

Re: points question

Yes had dual points in 87.. looking to upgrage to electronic. As most places I see say they are obsolete...
