I was wondering if more than the 1.5% or 2% catalyst is necessary when making peanut butter. I know when you add fillers to other catalized material you often need to increase the catalyst since you are spreading the molecules out with fillers?

NO! Depending on the ambient temperature, you could/will have a smoking hot mess on your hands if you do that! :flame:Only add catalyst based on the volume of resin you start out with! I personally wouldn't go over 1.5%, and if it is over 70 degrees, 1% is gonna work just fine!

That brings to mind an event that my old neighbor did some decades ago now. He was building a hood scoop for his new Dodge Dart car at the time. So he took some hard solid cardboard and fashioned the hood scoop and taped it together and cut and fit it until it was exactly like he wanted it. He then bought the resin and glass clothe and cover that scoop with the clothe and mixed up a fairly large batch of the resin in a vegetable can he had cleaned out. Well not knowing the chemical reaction from the mix, he proceeded to apply the resin to the glass clothe and the next thing he noticed was the heat coming off that can. He finally couldn't hold it any long and set it down and the heat got so hot that it literally melted the seam of the can and it opened up. and resin slowly spreading out going all over things that he didn't prepare for. And to top all that off, he was in the kitchen of his rented apartment when this happened... A huge extremely hot mess. Lesson learned the hard way...

KORECTAMUNDO!!!!!! ^^^^^ In special circumstances you can go as low as .5% and up to 2.5% but as stated "Special Circumstances" and you have to really know what you're doing.;)

As NM said for Peanut Butter staying between 1% and 1.5% would be the Norm.

Don't glass if your working environment is below 60 degrees F...resin needs temps warmer than that to properly cure...for several hours...
