Hello everyone,
I currently own a 1991, model 202, Lowe pontoon boat and have a problem or have had a problem since last year since I put in a brand new marine stereo receiver to replace the cassette stereo system that was in it before. Anyway, since I installed the new stereo reciever the speakers and head unit shut down then power back up on me after a split second when the volume is turned up to about 26 or above. Today I did some troubleshooting and found out that the old original speakers are maxed watts of 25 watts so I did, last year replace one of the blown out speakers, not on my account, with a 65 watt max newer car speaker from Walmart that I bought as a combo kit that a few years back that had a receiver I used in a car but not the speakers. Anyway, I removed the plug in on all three 25 watt original boats speakers and I could crank the volume up pretty high on using the 65 watt speaker without them or the receiver cutting out but as soon as I reconnected each one, one at a time and disconnected and moved to another original speaker and did the same thing to eventually all then the reciever would shut down momentarily and start back up and cut off until I disconnected the boats original speakers again. I am thinking that the original boats, 25 watt, max peak speakers or worn and old and i did notice sokem white corrosion around the outside speaker magnet on the old speakers so I am thinking I need a good set of marine grade speakers to replace those three original speakers so this will solve the shutting down and staring up problem of my stereo system. What do you think? Am I right on my assumption?
