PONTOON CAVITATION W/125 MERC.

New pontoon owner 25' w/ 125 merc. had 85 rude on it cavatated badly, lost cyl on rude putting 125 merc on .We don't want any cav. problems<br />it has a whale tale on it. Should we mount mtr. so whl. tale is flush with bottom of pontoons? Thank's for any help GWOODI2002

I would mount the motor with the cavitation plate(flat fin above prop) about two inches above the bottom line of the pontoons. Mount the motor bolts as high as possible, this will let you adjust motor height shallower. You want to run the motor shallow enough as to "not" cavitate. The 125 will also be heavier, and that will help that motor sit in the water better. Should be a wild ride on that 25' tooner if it isn't weighted down. Good luck.
