just picked up from a steel yard an aluminum gas can tray that mounts on rear pontoon, at this time i am using gorilla 2 sided weather proof tape to install, however what about a couple self tapping pole barn steel screws going right into the pontoons, is this ok?

dave, pop up a few pictures so we all can see what you are talking about. Then we can offer better suggestions and ideas. JMHO

I wanna see some pictures, too.

You don't want to hold the tray down with steel screws into the pontoon - Bad idea.

There must be a better way than taping the tray to the log.

pay someone to weld it to the toon logs or use self-sealing closed rivets.

drilling scrws is a quick way to have your log sink.

Would only go with welding. Any fastener will be subjected to the gas sloshing in the tank and other forces. Rivets can pull out.

And just don't weld the tray to the log without some welded bracing to support it. A wrong step or bumped dock can rip the tray and tank off without some bracing.

Id do big hose clamps before rivets or screws into the sealed chamber. Duct tape sound like a good way to end up about 50' from a fuel tank contaminating the water.

Need photos where you want to mount it. Never drill in to your toons not ok.
