I, too, can't visualize a keel on a pontoon boat. A picture of your boat or one like it from the Internet would be helpful.

Live and learn - I've never seen one like that before. ... If it were mine, I'd cut off the loose piece, check for holes where it was welded to the log, and see how it felt on the water. If it felt ok with the piece missing, I'd leave it. You'll just have to be sure the boat floats off the trailer rather than sliding the jagged edge of the broken keel into the trailer runners. ... If it doesn't feel right, I suppose you'll need to have a replacement piece welded back on. ... Good luck.

Most 'toons I've had or worked on have had that or something similar to protect the bottom. Protect being the key word. Without them, the log would be very easily damaged. I'd be making arrangements to have it repaired/replaced/rewelded at the shop's discretion. I would not use it without something there to protect it.

I too would have it replaced by a competent welder.
I am having a hard time imagining exactly how this got tore off and on the trailer like it is... Did you have the trailer so deep the toon floated over the inside post and tore it off???
Good Luck! Hopefully it did not tear any holes in bottom of the log.
