How do you tell if a toon leaks? Its steel ithink. Paint is chiping and starting to rust. Its sitting on the ground in the woods. Is it fixable ?? No floor only cross beams to hold the toons together. Cable steering.

What do you think??

I'm no expert on toons but from what you just said I think those are gonna leak. Steel and the elements don't mix well and the common "ground" between the two is rust. I ain't trying to bust a bubble or anything but steel toons are probaly aged as well.

Re: pontoon testing

I think I would walk away, once steel starts rusting there isn't anything you can do to stop it and it would only be a matter of time till it sinks.

look up all the price of all the stuff you will need to get it on the water and I think the answer will be apparent.

I think you would save money and alot of headaches just finding an older boat that doesn't need rebuilt.

If you decide to go after it I would tap the tubes with a ball peen hammer to find weak spots, if it won't take a whack with a hammer it won't take the pounding of the water.

I would leave it and pretend that I never even saw it. Or you can be kind to the enviroment, cut it into moveable pieces, carry them to your truck, pick up your testes, drive to the junk yard and dispose of it there. After a few loads you might make enough for the hospital bill.

No one here has actually seen the boat so it is hard to make a call but steel toons have to be from the early 60's I would think.

You would essentially have to build a boat if only the cross members are there, coming up with wood, rails, furniture ect can add up in a hurry and if you do build it and the tubes come apart next year then you have to find tubes.

If that is something you would enjoy have at it, I was just saying check out what all the stuff you need will cost so you don't get half way done and have a"Holy Crap" moment when you realize how much more it is going to cost you.
