I finally found a pontoon & I am off to pick it up next week. It is a 24' & I was wondering how well a Dodge Durango with the Hemi would pull it?? Or should I just pick it up with the Dodge 3500 diesel dually? Thanks

The Durango with the Hemi has a tow rating of 7200 lbs so you should be fine.

I pull my 24 fter with a Dodge 2004 Quad cab 4x4 Hemi powered and if I didn't look in the mirrow ,I'd forget it's even there. Pulling I get 13.5 MPG.with a 3.55 rear and 17 inch tires.Just make sure that you use the tow button on your shifting lever.

Re: Pontoon towing

Sorry Incoop, I ended up getting a 1994 24' Sundancer with a 115 hp Johnson. Interior is in VERY good condition & the boat is very clean & well taken care of. Tandem trailer & the guy is even getting the wheel bearing re-packed before I pick up! One other selling point was the homemade grill on the deck that was made from a keg of beer core! I'm excited to pick it up & get it in the water!

Just so you know, Sundancer puts foam in their toons. Don't know if they did back in '94, but I suspect they did. Not necessarily saying you'll have any problems. I only mention it because I recall that was something that concerned you.

I know. After a lot of research, I found that a lot of people are didn't see foam filled toons as much of an issue (as long as there have been no leaks). The toons on this boat are in very good condition with no repairs, so I reconsidered. This is my first toon, so I am sure there are things that I will find that I will like & won't like. Thanks for all your input & help. I am sure you will frequently see me on here with other "rookie" questions.

Okay, good. Your response was exactly what I'd hoped for. I think I mentioned before I don't see anything wrong with the foam as long as the toons have never leaked. Glad you found your rig and can't wait to see pics and hear reports of the first trip. Where'd you find her?

Found on the other side of Nebraska. Little bit of a drive, but will be worth it.

I have pulled my over weighted 24 sundancer all over the place with a V6 Explorer with the tow package for three years now. Pulling it is pretty easy, stopping it is another story.I dont think you will have any problems with either vehicle. ( I do have a couple of spare transmissions just in case though) :)

In Ohio and other states trailer brakes are mandatory. Your insurance may require them if your state doesn't.

The 3500 is overkill. You could tow a 35' fiberglass hull with that.

Here it is! Hauled it from one end of Nebraska to the other with the Dodge Durango (w/Hemi) with no problems. I am also posting pics of the "grill Keg". It is cutom made & mounts on the deck, but I took it off for the trip home. Can't wait to do some grilling on it!!
