Picked up a project pontoon boat and I'd like to replace the wood transom core. Have a crack on starboard side of the transom where I believe the core is rotting and weakened so the motor is loose.
The transom wood core is practically welded into place, pictures attached. I'd like to go as non-invasive as possible to get to the core and be able to replace it. I'm thinking cut the top off the main wrap around and make the new wood core taller to compensate.
Other option would be to cut the legs off the inside gussets, and cut the middle support, replace the wood and then drill holes and reinforce the gussets with new angle pieces and laminate the center support on each side with aluminum plate (bolted).
I'll need to weld the crack on the starboard of the transom anyway, but would prefer to make the repaired core accessible in case of future needed replacement.
Thanks.
