Hi

I am a brand new member and I have read a lot of similar problems but I'm going to ask anyway. I also have the same problem with my tilt/trim leaking down and will try Captain's suggestion to fix it. My main problem is this. I have an 1987 Bayliner with a 125 H.P. Force motor. I made the dumb mistake of running with gas that was about two years old. I just topped it off with fresh and every other year it has been okay, but this is the longest it has set up. Our lake was pretty much dried up last year. Anyway, when I first started out, it ran fine. We rode about 45 minutes to an hour and then stopped to fish for a couple of hours. On the way back is when it started to act up. At full throttle it dropped from about 40 mph to about 20-25. In neutral it would rev up like normal (sorry no tach) but in gear it would start off normal for a few seconds and then get real sluggish again. I made it back and it ran okay if I didn't push it and just cruised 20-25 mph. I think the stale gas caused it but would like other opinions. Also, would some decarb spray, gas treatment, or something similar possibly help or will I need to rebuild the carbs? Any suggestions/opinions would be greatly appreciated.
thanks.

Re: Poor engine performance

Hello Skipper 11. I had simialar problems with bad gas (And this was not from baked beans). It kind of sucks but you will have to dump the gas and start out fresh. You might try just draining the gas from your carbs by loosening the float cover screws and then re tighten them. Also if the fuel strainer is easy to get to on your fuel pump dump this as well. I would try fresh gas first and see if that works. Hopefully the water is minimal and after a couple of minutes of running with new gas it will work its self out. I posted similar question here is the link to that question
http://www.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=006175
