pop rivets in aluminum v hull

i have an aluminum vhull that has a few holes with brass screws in them. i want to take the screws out and put in aluminum pop rivets.all the holes are above the water line.i was going to use sealer on the rivet before i poped them in and wipe off the extra.will this work ?

Get the brass out!!! you can use rivets with 5200 sealant.Standars rivets may not be strong enough.You can use stainless bolts and nuts just make sure you insulate it with nylon or rubber washers or put 5200 sealant on both sides alone.after it dries,drill a small hole in it and put the stainless hardware in .Thats how I repaired mine. Hello.<br />I followed the advice of a professional on this board.<br />He told me to buy stainless steel truss headed phillips bolts #10-24 and half an inch long.Washers and nylon backed nuts.a 3/16 inch drill bit and 5200.<br />He claims you can literally replace every rivet in a boat using these.<br />The 5200 only to be used under the bolt head and the excess to be wiped away instantly.<br />I did as he said and the results are great.The trussheads look much like rivets and they are a lot easier and cheaper to get than vibration resistant closed rivets.<br />Hope this helps.

i know that the brass is not good in aluminum. they are in there just to plug small holes that some 1 had something mounted in the past.there is nothing there now just a small 1/4 inch hole.they are not holding anything together. they are really just going to be there to plug the hole instead of a brass nut and bolt.thats why i just wanted to use a pop rivet
