Re: Pop up

I agree, and I have popup blockers installed!! The site is apparently monitoring these threads and work arounds and tailoring their ads to work around our work arounds. I'm to the point that instead of being able to enjoy the site, I'll probably just come here only when I need help. That sucks!!

OK.
If you could pay, say, $10- a month for a pop-up-free Premium Version of the iBoats forums would you sign up?
Didn't think so....

I am about as low tech as you can get, but I was able to figure out how to install Firefox AND enable the pop-up limiter and now see a lot fewer pop-ups than I see threads that are whining about the annoyance of pop-ups on a FREE service site.

I NEVER see any ads, same ad-block I have had since 2001. I don't adjust anything or do anything to it, it just works. If I am looking for something I disable it. When done, I turn it back on.

Having said that, iboats is in business to make money, and they also sell parts.
Just like TV and Radio, advertising is involved. It's what helps pay the bills and bring this FREE Site to you so you can get FREE help to fix your boat.

Re: Pop up

I visit a lot of sites and none of them have pop ups. The pop ups here are annoying and they cause the page to take a lot longer to load.
This site could have zero advertising and still make a bunch of money. This is just greed.
Without the "Free" advice members give these forums would be nothing so why are you blasting us with these stupid pop ups that I have seen time after time?

Everybody has different tolerance levels, I guess. At the risk of sounding like a goody two shoes, that ad just doesn't bother me a whole lot. I just hit the Close button and move on. Using Chrome now so I could download the Ad Blocker, but I just don't care that much. YMMV.

That may be the single most out-of-touch-with-reality-comment I've seen in here.
iBoats runs a web store...that is their revenue source.
As a service, and certainly to generate some goodwill, they also host the forums...at their cost....there is NO REVENUE STREAM OTHER THAN ADVERTISING.
That pays for bandwidth so that people can ignore the forum rules and repeatedly post annoying threads that complain about pop-up ads, and to pay for Admins to perform the troubleshooting that is required when, say, someone hacks the site and it is down for two days.

How on earth do you think they can "make a bunch of money" without it?:facepalm:

Greed is having the ads AND charging you for access. Greed is also expecting everything to be given to you for FREE.

And just how much has this "FREE" advice cost you? The door is that X right up on top.

Re: Pop up

If people would use the search button AND learn how to set their browser up properly, then there would be no more of these threads, I have never seen an ad on this forum, but I know how to set my browser up properly.

I downloaded it, didn't help(it "may" have slowed them down)...

Security level is set to med-high and I have Chrome set to "do not allow any site to show pop ups". This is the only forum where I get pop ups....... The other forums have advertising, just not as a pop up.

Re: Pop up

i would like to know if the adds are from iboat. if they are and there rated on links then i have no problem surfing off the ads to help the forum. if there not then i should block them to ensure the link rate is kept low. after 15 years on the net im imune to adverts and flashy things on the screen

Did you turn the Ad-Blocker on ??

There should be a little red stop sign in the upper right corner on your browser. :)

PS, Make sure you guys are downloading the Ad-blocker plus !!!

EDIT: Deleted a bad link.

Apparently I don't have plus, no stop sign. Went to the link to download.

First it came up:

It can
1) Access your data on all websites
2) Access your tabs and browsing activity

That sounds a little over the top. Maybe someone can explain what that really means.

Also, I went around the site checking reviews etc... When I went to close down tabs from the link, my system crashed. Blue screen with a bunch of instructions. First being: "Problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer".

When I rebooted, I got a message from Windows: "The system has recovered from a serious error". Coincidence? Not thinking so at the moment. Haven't tried surfing around in that link since.......

Thoughts?

Woody if it really bothers you don't come here or don't ***** about it.

Where not hear to put ***** in the replies, and tell me to move on. In other news today, I installed add blocker works great.
