Re: poppit valve

When the engine is running at speed. the w/pump is pumping a excess amount of water, as the pressure rises in the engine the pressure on the diaphraim it opens the popit valve and dumps the excess overboard--Bob

Re: poppit valve

If the poppet is stuck open you will be dumping water out of the block when it is needed at lower rpms. Let's say below 3000... If it is stuck closed it will prevent adequate water circulation (or enough flow) through the heads/block when cumbustion temps are at their highest...

In both cases it will cause an overheat condition. Either at idle/no-wake speeds for the first and higher rpms for the later.

In both cases the cause is most likely by debri stuck in the valve area, or it's just plain worn out or things are corroded in there.. There is a diapram, spring, the poppet itself which is plastic, a grommet, carrier and a diapram washer...
