Hi,

I have a 22 foot sunrunner with a 5.7 V8 merc I/O. I have noticed some porpoising going on when running. If I put some weight into the front bow of the boat..it stops. I don't want to put dead weight into the boat (fuel economy). Is there a way to use my trim tabs etc. to help with this?

Thanks,
Adam

Re: Porpoising

You can also add a doel fin or stingray to your outdrive which should solve the problem.Charlie

Do you have trim tabs? If you do - you are all set. Trim the tabs down to take off then trim accordingly for the best ride after you are up on plane.

Mr. Bill is correct - simply learn to use the Tabs to your best Advantage. Trim Down until on plane then bring them up until you are comfortable. If the boat porpoises, deploy the tabs a little. If you have an I/O or and outboard with tilt trim, then you two things to adjust. I would put the trim tabs down on take off, put the motor trim at 0 (prop should be perpendicular to the water sureface, and adjsut the tabs to control the boat attitude. This leave the motor in the most efficient position for propulsion. The motor trim should be for the sole purpose of prop efficiency if you have trim tabs to take care of the attitude and handling.

Trim the outdrive down all the was and pust the trim tabs down also, or try moving some of your gear to the nose you shouldn't have to add weight.
