Portable Gas Tank

I posted about this topic a couple of days ago but I am not able to find the post, apparently it was deleted during all of this maintenance work. Anyhow, I have a 3 gallon plastic portable fuel tank for my motor. I noticed a couple of days ago that gas was leaking out the end of the hose (while not connected to the motor). If I loosen the tank lid and relieve the pressure it quits leaking but once the pressure builds back up in the tank it starts leaking again. The pressure build up is from the heat ( store in my storage building). The tank has a built in vent in the lid. My question is, do you think that the leak is a result of a bad or clogged vent or do you think that the valve in the primer bulb has gone bad. The tank, hose and bulb were all bought about two years ago. I you think it is the vent, what do you suggest that I do?

Thanks

sounds like it is not venting, unscrew it and figure out why

I really don't know how to figure out if it is venting or not. I unscrewed it and it looks ok but you cannot get to the vent to blow through it to see if it is clear or not.

Newer tanks have a one-way vent in the cap. Air can enter tank to displace used fuel volume, but fumes over fuel cannot escape (to prevent ignition danger)... sounds like pressure builds up inside tank under heat(normal) and fuel leaks out coupler.. not normal. Replace coupler.. it may also leak air in when connected to the motor, causing an apparent fuel pump failure.

Good luck!

The fitting at the motor end of the hose has a ball/spring kind of valve which may leak under high pressure. There could be some debris between the ball and seat which prevents a complete seal. Push in the ball and see if you can clear it.
