portable plastic fuel tank

I just bought a fuel tank with a plastic threaded elbow on top for quick connect.
Do I need to put any sealer on the plastic threaded connection to put the fitting on?

I put teflon tape on mine. It's a 12 gallon tank with a 3/8 brass barb no quick disconnect.
