I have a 1970 Barracuda Flat Bottom Speed Boat. It is a 16' closed bow ski boat with a 1988 Force 125 Outboard motor on the back. For some reason the motor is offset 1" to the left of center (looking from back to front). It has been pulling really bad to the right, but by adjusting the little fin on the motor I have been able to correct that. The cavitation plate is also about 1 1/2" below the bottom of the transom, and I know that might be to low since it seems to throw a lot of spray. However, my question is this. Why would the motor be offset? Prop walk/ prop torque/ poor worksmanship? It really looks like someone intentionally mounted it this way since it is obvious it is off center. Should I bother remounting the motor center and level the cavitation plate with the bottom of the boat? Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks.

Howdy 'Cuda.

You definitely need the AV plate level with, to 1-1/2" above the bottom level.

Years ago it was common on light boats with big engines to mount the engine a bit to port to compensate for prop torque. I don't think it did any good, but I wouldn't weaken the transom by moving it to new holes.

Good luck. :)
