Re: Positioning Bimini Rear Support Poles

I'm interested in this as well. Just finsished installing a Carver sunbrella 6' top on my 1995 Crownline 202 Br.

I mounted my support poles nearly all the way to the rear of the boat.
Pros:
1. It seemed to offer the most strength at that the 90 degree angle.
2. Allows for entrance in between rear support and brace as well as from the swim platform.
3. I didn't have to drill the rivets and cut the 48" braces in my Carver kit.
Cons:
1. When removed, the mounts in the rear may interfere/rub against the corners of my cover when trailering or storing...

it may be a pain to climb in or out of the rear while at the dock.

You want the rear support poles to hold the top at the proper position when under way, which is the leading edge of the top must be slightly lower than the rear when on plane, otherwise the top will act like a parachute , flapping and rocking back and forth. The way I install mine is to use the front straps to find the right position, then extend the rear poles too the spot that works the best without changing the angle of the top.

What he said, but with adding this; make sure you're not blocking your way "into" the boat.

I agree with above. Good luck with "not" blocking the enterance on the boat. I leave mine down until I get underway and then put it up.
