2014 Cup Schedule due out soon UPDATE: The 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup schedule likely will be out by the end of September, NASCARs Kerry Tharp confirmed Friday at Richmond International Raceway. Tharp said there may be some minor tweaks to the 2014 schedule, but he did not expect a radical overhaul of track dates (FoxSports)(9-7-2013)

UPDATE:The 2014 Sprint Cup schedule is being debated behind closed doors, and some quite interesting twists appear on the table at the moment. Just a few weeks ago it looked like NASCAR didn't plan any major, or even minor, changes for 2014. Now, however, word is things have, for some reason, changed. What NASCAR eventually does with next year's Cup calendar seems up for review, with few sacred cows. Don't make any hotel reservations, but here are some possible moves:

-- Homestead might lose its spot as the season finale;
-- Phoenix might gain the final spot on the 2014 tour;
-- Sonoma could earn a spot in the playoffs, adding a California stop to the chase;
-- Road America, that picturesque road course at Elkhart Lake, Wis., an hour north of Milwaukee, could get a slot in the 2014 Cup schedule (even though NASCAR's Brian France earlier this year said he planned no new tracks on the tour next season);
-- how to fit a new track in the schedule? Dover could lose its late spring Cup weekend (keeping its early fall Cup date, in the chase), track boss Denis McGlynn, not unaccustomed to such speculation, would surely fight hard to keep both;
-- and -- hold your horses -- Darlington might even get its traditional Labor Day weekend Southern 500 back;
-- to fill that Mother's Day Saturday night slot, maybe a swap with Atlanta;

Of course after all this debate NASCAR might simply decide not to make any changes for 2014.(MikeMulhern.net), see the 2014 schedule page for a look at dates that have been confirmed so far.(9-17-2013)

IF any changes are made:

I always thought the finale should be at a traditional, historic track - Homestead and/or Phoenix isn't it. Trouble is being so late in the season, weather becomes a factor.

Add Road America as a third road course and Sonoma in the Chase - Bring it on.

Darlington back to Labor Day Weekend, shoulda never been changed.

To make room for a new track, drop a Kansas race. Toto doesn't need two Cup races.

I'll let Brian France know. :lol:

Re: Possible 2014 schedule change.....

Well, I didn't go to the RA Nationwide race this year, but the cup race would draw me back for sure.

Turns 5-6-7, here I come.

RA would test their road coarse skills for sure.

I always thought the odds of getting a cup race at RA were pretty slim.
But since all track attendance is down, and tv revenue is up, NASCAR probably wouldn't be giving much up, if anything.
RA draws a big crowd from the Chicagoland area, and I'm sure they would flock to RA.

I see Nationwide is gone as a series sponsor after their contract runs out after the 2014 season...... I just recently stopped calling it the Busch series........:facepalm:
