possible cloged intake raw water system 1996 volvo penta sx 5.7

would like to know if you take off hose at raw water pump part number 3857794 the larger hose...if you put the water hose flush system or out of water running system with the water ear muffs should the water come out of the hase that I disconnected from raw water pump or is there some type of valve or mechanism between where you put on waterhose connection and hose to waterpump???t... no water came through when I did this also I am not getting water circulation in raw water cooling system need to find this out before buying new water pump or replacing impeller.. if this got clogged up what can I use to clear line???

welcome aboard.

there is no valve. however there is the power steering oil cooler, which can get plugged with debris.

what I did today... I took of the hose from the raw water pump the one that brings the water in and hooked up water hose to it and water came out the intake holes so I thought I cleared the line.. the water came out fast with no back pressure on water hose.. so I tried to run water the regular way for running engine out of the water without the hose not hooked up to the pump and nothing came out of the hose that attaches to the pump.. the same hose I backflushed with... the water came out no where else except for around the water earmuffs that the hose is hooked up to like it was under pressure I don't understand that at all... I wish someone could help explain this 1997 5.7 sx outdrive
