Hello to all. First of all thank you for all the input and help I've received in the past from the community. This is an excellent forum and I am grateful it is available. Now to the nitty gritty. I have a 1998 VP 5.0 GI Gipbycce. It is a TBI.

Originally I had a no start condition and after research I replaced the HP fuel pump. It started and ran fine at the house. When I took it to the water it starts up and idles fine with no issues at low RPMs.

I take off and it runs good up to 4000 rpms but I can't run it at WOT. If I run it at WOT it starts to lose rpm like if its flooding. After running for a while it bogs down starts backfiring intermittently and rpms drop to about 3000 to 3200.

Ar this point rpms will not go up and it runs like this the whole time. When I stop and it sits a while I get back up to 4000 rpms with same wot issue and then the drop of rpms follows.

I also have a strong fuel odor buildup at idle. I replaced the plugs to see if it would help but it didn't I've also replaced the dist cap, rotor, plug wires as well before the pump.

Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated. I hope everyone had a great 4th of July weekend.

Thanks,

Martin

Cylinder 1 is dead no compression. I was able to get some help on one of the other forums and with their advice I'm going to look into the head a little more to see if it is a broken spring or valve issue before writing off the engine. I'm really hoping it is a head issue and that I won't have to replace the engine block.
