Possible fuel issue?

Hi all,

I have a 1985 Yamaha 45 that has been maintained very well over the years. This summer has been a bit rough, however. In June I replaced the impeller and rebuilt the carbs with a kit.

Later that month I was able to get the boat in the water for a test run and for the first 15 or 20 minutes the performance was good. Shortly after this initial warm-up period, it began to bog down under load and seemed starved for fuel. Idle speed was fine.

I checked the fuel filter and it was clean. I changed the tank and primer bulb/hose assembly and this did not improve or correct the situation.

Does anyone have any other ideas of where I can begin to accurately diagnose the cause of this issue? I did let the motor sit overnight and the following day it started fine and ran great for 10 or 15 minutes, then slowly began to drag down to little or no power. Throttle back to idle and it is ok.

Thanks for any input or suggestions you may have and I appreciate your time,

Re: Possible fuel issue?

The carbs were all clean (I checked when I reuilt them), the plugs are new, the bulb did not go soft and I could not tell if it was running hot (but I do not think it was).

I know this is like trying to find a needle in a haystack; the vent on the gas tank is open. Is it possible that the new primer bulb/fuel line is not for a yamaha or it doesn't fit like it should?
