Possible uses for shredded paper?

Hey everybody. I have been shredding my junk mail at home. I have been wondering what you guys who shredd unwanted papers use the results for.<br /> I don't have a woodstove or fireplace, so I recently decided to start a mulch pile with it, although the glossy paper might not work out. Anybody else use it for anything, rather than throw it out?

I hate it when people do that. It's much heavier than other packing materials and makes a mess on the other end.

Paper-Crete<br /><br />Mix and use as a plaster for exterior surface finishing (homes, fences, etc.)

I shred my papers too. Then I burn it in the burn-barrel. Total 100% destroyed that way.<br />Been there, done-that with ID theft.<br /><br />I wouldn't send it as packaging. I agree... too heavy and messy.<br /><br />Burn it if you can and toss it on the mulch pile. That will make its 'circle-of-life' complete.<br /><br /><br />H.

We save the plastic bags they deliver the newspaper in and stuff those. I guess it is heavy though, but it doesn't make a mess.

Depends how shredded it is. If it's not dust it makes good pet bedding, if it's really fine if you mulch and compress it then leave to dry in blocks it can be used as logs for the fire.

I used to buy it by the ton and use it for bedding in my barn.

If you have any soil erosion problems on your property, that'll help.<br /><br />If you have any oil leaks under your vehicle, put it in an onion bag, then put it under the leak.<br /><br />Also works well for cleaning up spills, or spreading around when cleaning engine parts to catch gunk.<br /><br />If you have a shed, you can sheetrock the interior, and cut access holes at the top between studs. Pour it in for insulation.<br /><br />If it is the cross-cut type shredder intead of the long strip cutter, then you have New Year's Eve Confetti!<br /><br />Don't know if this applies to you, but you can give a BIG box of it as a gift you the pre-school age grandkids...

Considering your signature I know you know what you are talking about, but I am a confused by the use of a pronoun in place of an article. <br />I was sure the recycle comment would have brought a raft of disparaging remarks. Since it did not let me explain recycling to you: Seperated all trash into appropriate classes. Keep until you are stumbling over it. Load it up in the pick up truck and take it to the nearest recycler (fifty miles away in a truck that gets 14 miles to the gallon) Take the proceeds and buy gas for the truck. Call the auto club for enough gas to get home...

Call local animal shelters, free bedding is always a great thing. <br /><br />And if all else fails, FREECYCLE, someone will take it.

Real trucks don't get 14 mpg, they get 14gpm

14 gpm? your Lucky!<br /><br />I havn't been able to drive my truck, I left it running at the pump, and the pump couldn't keep up, and they ran out of gas at the station, not getting any more delivered until next week.<br /><br /><br />
