How close to the rub rail should the post guides be? Touching or 1/2 inch out?

Re: POST GUIDES

The instructions on my guides said to "preload" them a little bit so they don't shake/vibrate when going down the road. My boat gets loaded crooked once in a while and the one guide on doesn't touch. It doesn't vibrate to badly and hasn't come loose or anything yet.

DougV>

Re: POST GUIDES

Some boats are wider in the middle than stern so make sure you figure for that. I have a trailer with guides spaced approx 1.5"-2" each side and it works fine. The trailer has center rollers that help straighten it when winched up. The aft rollers are 12" wide and vee shaped. Bunk only trailers might need the guides closer.

Re: POST GUIDES

I'd like to change my opinion on the preload them a little bit statement in my earlier post. I've noticed (just yesterday) that this is causing two wear spots in my rub rail trim. I've re adjusted them so there is about 1 1/2" clearance between the rail and the guide post.

DougV>

Re: POST GUIDES

measure the boat front, middle and back and set them about 1" wider than the widest part or the hull
