well, we got hit hard in annapolis. about 3/4 of the naval academy was under water. they decided to put me in charge of all dewatering operations. fun. we have been pumping since friday morning around the clock, with lots more to go. too bad our entire utility system in underground in large, 20' deep tunnels. most power restored. no a/c for approx 6 months. still no hot water or ventilation. we may be approaching 100 mil in damages at the academy alone. for all intensive purposes, i've been here since 5am friday. atleast my boat survived. it floated off the lift, but we tied it enough to hold. back to the dewatering efforts...

Yeah, I heard there was a 8 - 9 ft surge in the Chesapeake and recalled you saying you had your boat on a lift. Thought to myself "Well, that's too bad". Glad to hear it survived. On TV, the streets of Annapolis looked strange underwater. Saw a couple of places we'd been in earlier this year and the water was up to the doors. Keep those Handybillys going.

Re: post izzy

btw, if you are not familiar with the naval academy, everywhere you see water in the pics, it's not supposed to be there... :(

official word is 7.6' tidal surge. we're still working on damage estimates, but i'd guestimate at $100 mil. the amazing thing is we were able to have classes last monday. with only have our classroom space available, classes were held in some unusual locations. i'm directing 6 different contractors 24/7 in repairs. still focusing on dewatering, cleanup, and sanitation (carpet, drywall, furniture removal combined with dehumidification). the actual re-building has not even started. it's going to be a long year...

Nope, Sorry Matt, nobody cares, we all want to talk about toilets. ;)

Seriously- That is a lot of water. I guess there is a price to pay living next to it. I'm about 200 miles inland here in Texas. My in laws have a place on Galveston ( Sea Wolf I think) that is on one of the manmade channels, harbor side. Everytime a big storm comes the pumps come out. Whenever the uh, how to say it, clothing challenged female homo sapiens roam I sure like the place, otherwise I like seeing land in all directions.

Almost sounds sarcastic dont it, Its not. I just don't have anything usfull to add. Sorry bud, hang in there and keep us posted. Please ;)

Re: post izzy

mattttt, it is a naval academy, right? I'm with neumann's - enjoy (if you can enjoy seeing tax dollars going out into the bay) the pics, just don't have anything to say to help the situation. I feel for you and the work that is ahead of you!

Re: post izzy

thanks fellas. just good to know people actually looked at the pics and understand. the emergency is slowing down, and we are at a bit slower pace with repairs and spending your money. we have a handle on the environmental concerns, but the long painful process of rebuilding is just starting. yes, aspeck, it is the u.s. naval academy. only one.

Mattt, sorry the pics were posted on Sunday and somehow got buried. I can certainly relate to the flooding and cleanup. We've had our share of storms here. I live right on the water and get tidal flooding several times a year even with just tropical storms. We rush home and get the boat out of the lift and on the trailer as soon as we know somthings headed our way. We had a 7.5 foot tide during Tropical Storm Frances a few years back and some still haven't recovered.

BTW you took some great pics. I was thinking about our members in Isabel's path.

With Neaumans on this..Saw your thread and thought what a mess. Because I didn't respond didn't mean that I wasn't here. Your pics were better than any newspaper could do.

Most of us look at all threads and unless we have something to add we just read. Alot of times if I miss a couple of days here its already on the second or third page..

Mattttt, I was refering to the water there - you know, navy ... water - never mind, feeble attempt at a joke. When the family owned the car dearlership I had couple of friends that went through the academy. Had the pleasure of delivering new cars to them there. It sure is a great place to visit and just being there sends chills up and down your spine! Your pics are not what I remembered - not nearly as much water there then! ;)

Okay, I will shut up before I dig a deeper hole! :(

Hey Matttt, you guys gonna need to hire Heavey Equipment Operators? If you have more machinery than operators I am qualified on the big stuff, Volvo D series loaders, tracked excavaters, etc.
