Potential cracked block

I have posted here with questions a few times before and you have all been very helpful. So here's my current problem. I have 1970 115 Evin. with a jet pump on it and I took it out for the first time this year a few days ago as the ice has just recently cleared out of the river to do some fishing so the water temp. was about 35deg. I noticed water running down the outside of the of lower end unit. So I pulled the cover off and had my son take the wheel so I could watch it while under power and a few small droplets of water were oozing from the head gasket on the #3 cyl.. There was additional water leaking from somewhere else on the back side of the motor but I could not lean over far enough to see where it was coming from. I pulled off the exhaust inspection cover back at my shop and a white frothy water/oil mixture could be seen on both port side exhaust ports. I am thinking it is a warped head ,but how common are cracked blocks. Could it be possible that a bit water froze in cyl. water jacket over the winter and cracked the block? Also I felt the cyldrs. at the same time and they were not even luke warm.
Thanks for any help.

Re: Potential cracked block

It may well be nothing more than a blown head gasket or exhaust cover gasket. Take the cylinder head off and see what has happened.

BTW, keep those cylinders over oiled until you get past the water problem.

Re: Potential cracked block

if you stored the motor in the down operating postion, the block is self draining. i agree pull the head.

Re: Potential cracked block

Thanks for the help on the cracked block, I have already pulled the head and cannot tell by looking if the head is warped so I will have to scrape off the gasket and lay it on a flat plate of glass and look at. I did find something else though, the middle ring on the #3 piston is gone and the top of the piston and the cyl. hd.dome are all gouged up however the exhaust ports look fine, I can see where the head has been sanded like it has been warped before. The piston and head damage look old like it has been running this way for awhile. I think maybe someone has tried fix a warped head and jury rigged it back together. I have another block with 3 good pistons in it and if they are within wear spec I might hone this cylinder a little bit and put new rings on one of those pistons and reassenble it and run it. I don't use it alot and I am careful with it so I might be able to get by with it for awhile. Do any of you with some rebuild experience see any real problem with doing this? I know its not the correct way but do you think I can get away with it. I have had alot experience rebuilding 2 strokes just not Outboards so I need you guys opinion.
Thanks once again.

Re: Potential cracked block

You could get away with that. It depends on what you find when you get it apart.
