power cable shielding

I’m getting ready to install a Furuno 600L on O/B powered center console. The power lead supplied is shielded, but is too short to reach the battery compartment.<br /><br />How important is it to run shielded all the way, and without a grounding plate, what should the shield be tied to?<br /><br />Thx, jle

OK, thanks... Furuno said not to worry about shielding the power supply, but to call back if I end up with interference.
