Guys, I have decided to buy a used engine for now & rebuild mine over the winter. So I bought a used 1990 Evinrude, mine was supposed to be a 92 but not real sure can’t find any numbers. Called Evinrude dealer he said as long as I use everything off the Johnson electronics, carbs etc. it should be fine. Everything did go on fine almost exact motors some differences bolt hole here bolt hole there that was different. So now I am at the point of sitting power head onto midsection & it appears that the driveshaft is not going up into the engine far enough 1/16 or less. Can someone tell me what is going on & how to resolve this please

The power head will not sit all the way down. Like the driveshaft is holding it up. I can rock engine back & forth ever so slightly in front we’re driveshaft goes into crank. The engine & bass.

Closer inspection shows that the Evinrude crank sits about 1/4 in lower than my Johnson. Appears that the crank is not going far enough down the shaft. Shaft is not splined down enough to except this crank. Any ideas? Or am I taking the shaft again😲

Yes they changed crankshafts in late 1991...need to change driveshaft to 1990 style as shorter

Just take.the lower unit off and bolt the powerhead down. Then just run a hose.to the water tube and run it.
