Could I use my 1972 65hp power head that has 150psi per hole in place of my soon to die 1978 75hp power head. i pulled the lower unit on the 75hp today for the water pump and found that the drive shaft is a 4 spline just like my old healthy 1972 65hp. Looking at the block they are identical except for the starter solinoid and fuel pump locations.

What do yall think?

Well, if you already own them and don't have to put out any cash yet, I would say it's worth a shot. If you can see that they are identical blocks and things mount up the same....hell, why not?
You won't have the hassle of returning merchandise, so you have nothing to lose by trying it. :D

I am pretty sure this will work but figured I would throw it out to the OBM Gods to see what Yall would have to say on the matter. On the plus side I would keep the 72 model out of circulation with its evil hydro electric drive crap. Thats the whole reason its not sitting on the boat now. I found a newer model and bigger motor for cheaper than i could find a used "HOPE IT WORKS" electric lower unit.
