I have a new 15 hp 2 stroke Yamaha for use on my Quicksilver inflatable. I notice it has a power outlet at the front and the manual says it is to be used for lighting. This sounds strange as i'd imagine you'd want lights on when the motor has stopped as well. Is this power outlet designed to be connected to charge a battery and if not is there a way to adapt it so it can?

whats the model number? many small yammies have the ac lighting coils, the amperage output is rather small but if it has ac lighting coils it can be converted, with a kit, to DC battery charging. kit is mostly a rectifier and mounting hardware.

Yeah it must be AC. I was hoping it wasn't as I can't really see the point of unregulated, part time lighting. Not sure of the model no. as it's dark outside but it's just the current 2 stroke 15hp. It looks from the Yamaha website that the power is straight from the alternator so i'd say you're right re the charging kit. I'll have a hunt around for one. Thanks
