power pack output test

I have an '84 8hp (J8RCRM). I want to test the power pack but do not own a neon tester...can i use a digital multi meter to perform this test. if so, what setting should the meter be on and what values should i be looking for. thanks for any info...i am no mechanic, just mechanically inclined enough to blow/burn stuff up haha

what are you trying to acomplish? cylinders not firing?

not getting spark on the #2 cylinder. i have swapped out the coil with coils that are known working with no affect so just working my way up the chain.

the only thing that i can think of is to replace the power pack...

i guess thats what im looking at, my digital multi meter doesnt appear to have the DVA settings. I just hate to spend $100+ on a new powerpack and it not fix the problem...'84 seems to be a bit of an oddball year for ignition on this motor so its not like used powerpacks are readliy availible on eBay. Sierra doesnt even have an aftermarket option for this part best I can tell.
