I have 1989 225 excel when I put the throttle down no response it is running on 4.5 cylinders I have replaced the powerpack and it cured it for a little bit but the same cylinders are out again I don't know what could cause this but I don't think this is a quiesidense but you never no if you have any ideas motor runs great. When it ideals

Re: Power pack

If you replaced the pack and fixed it ,and now the same thing. I would guess you have a coil blowing your pack on that cylinder.
Stop guessing and get a manual and check your outputs from the pack.
Are you sure it is not fuel?

Re: Power pack

test CDI output voltage with a peak reading meter or a DVA attachment on a digital meter.
YOU cannot use RMS or ac voltage, must be peak.
test each coil primary for correct output at the problem speed.
check plug cap resistance for correct resistance.
test pulser coil resistance, shorts to ground and proper output voltage at the problem RPM.
test stator high and low speed coils for resistance, shorts to ground and proper output voltage at the problem RPM. all voltage tests must be done with the correct peak reading meter.
test the crank position sensor resistance check the air gap its fixed but should be .020 or so from the flywheel.
check, very carefully, throttle position sensor output voltages, can use a standard meter preferably analog so you can catch any worn spots while moving the throttle.
