Hiall,
My '03 Montana has a problem with the passenger side power sliding door. The cable that is pulled to open the door, is tangled on it's spool/mechanism. I took off the interior panel and could see that the cable was twisted/tangled and that the plastic coating over the cable was wrecked (it's sort of like clothesline stuff). The motor etc still seems to work, but hit's the tangle and reverses. Anyway, the end of the cable that connects to the door has one of those "barrel" type blobs on it (like a big brake cable on a bike). I'm not sure what the other end of the cable looks like.
I called the stealership, and they said the only part listed is the whole power door actuator module to the tune of $878.90 + taxes.
So, anybody ever tried to repair or re-cable one of these? I have no idea where one would get cable like that to make a replacement (maybe old style boat steering cable?)... but I don't know if those types of cable ends can pressed on or what.
I have a call into a body shop that I know to see if they have ever repaired one of these. In comparison to $900+ in parts that I mostly don't need, a couple hundred to re-cable my existing setup would not be horrible deal...
anybody been here done this before?
