Power Steering Cable HELP!

Hi everyone,

So I have a 1988 Sunbird Eurosport with a 4.3L OMC Cobra. My steering cable is shot. It requires way too much effort to get it to move. I can barely get it to move either direction. (Its disconnected from the outdrive and Power steering cylinder) With everything disconnected, I can move the stern drive by hand easily.

Where can I find this cable? I haven't had any luck finding a part number with google or on here. Any advice on this project? Should I do anything to the cylinder while I have the cable off? Lubrication points to prevent this in the future?

Also, I just acquired this boat. So everything I do is a new discovery as far as what works and what doesn't.

Any suggestions will help!!

First the cable has numbers stammped in it.
It's not an OMC part.It's an added item.The boat manufacturer supplies it.
Any boat dealer sells it, this site I think sells it(I think)
Top of the site it has a link to Boat Parts and Accs.
Key in on that and it will take you to the steering section.
The steering you have is the rack and pinion style(look under the dash to be sure),
It's a standard cable, just make sure you order the right size.No way to correct for the wrong size.
The next thing get a MANUAL.. A factory one is best.
The sterndrive is an expensive part. If it's drained and not filled right you can ruin it.
On the side of the top of the drive is a BIG screw head, DO NOT REMOVE!!!
Lots of trouble there. It's not covered in the manual just don't touch.

Picked up the cable, and I have a manual. I just wondered about specific advice pertaining to the job that wouldn't be in the manual. Speaking of that, I'm not sure what screw your talking about. Could you elaborate? maybe a picture? Thanks in advance!

Top/side of the outdrive.
Might be a Cobra sticker or a big slotted screw head.
It's a screw that goes nowhere,actually a casting plug.
